The Lagos State Government has disclosed that no fewer than 133 lives and property valued at ?19.72 billion were lost to various fire incidents across the state in 2025.

This represents an increase compared to 2024, when 91 lives and property worth ?19.52 billion were lost to fire outbreaks.

The figures were contained in the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service 2025 Activity Report, released during the Y2026 Staff Engagement programme themed “People, Preparedness and Service Delivery: Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service,” held on Tuesday at Alausa, Ikeja.

According to the report, the agency received a total of 2,617 emergency calls during the period under review. Of these, 1,685 were confirmed fire incidents, while 645 were false calls.

Despite the losses recorded, the Service rescued 473 victims alive and successfully saved property valued at ?118.32 billion.

The report further revealed that fire prevention activities intensified during the year, with 8,791 facilities inspected, 7,997 safety certificates issued, and 90 compliance reports generated.

Speaking at the event, the Controller-General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, noted that while the agency recorded significant achievements, it continued to face operational challenges.

She identified false emergency calls and inadequate water supply during emergency responses as some of the major obstacles affecting effective service delivery.
