The Nigeria's Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu-Ejidike JP, has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria, following a 2-0 victory over their Rwandan counterparts, at the Amahoro stadium in Kigali, on Friday evening.
An elated Agu-Ejidike who spoke with a group of
journalists in Lagos, shortly after the match, could not hide the joy of seeing
the Super Eagles being back to winning ways, after playing 4 matches, drawing
3, and losing one, before Friday's victory, in the qualifying series so far,
commended the level of the players' concentration and tenacity that helped
secure the victory on the road. All the three-time African champions needed to
pick their first maximum points of the World 2026 qualifying series was a first-half
brace from Victor Osimhen.
Agu-Ejidike who is also the patron of the Nigerian
Football Supporters Club (NFSC) commended the whole team for their resilience,
by not allowing initial results to weigh down on them, going to Friday's match,
as they got the job done.
The Anambra-born International business mogul also
congratulates the the new handler of the team, Eric Chelle, for having hit the
ground running with the all-important three points, describing it as a good
omen for both the coach and the team in the race to qualifying for the 2026
World Cup.
The former President of the Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN) however urged the team to keep the winning momentum ahead of their next match, billed for the Godswill Akpabio stadium Uyo, on Tuesday, the 25th of March 2025, and beyond, saying the race just began. He advised the team to do their own part on every match-day, and hope for favourable results from the venues of other matches in the group. He added that, there is little or no margin for error, if Nigeria must qualify for the next World Cup which will be hosted jointly by the USA, Canada and Mexico.
With the victory, Nigeria have now moved a spot up the
log, to the 4th position with 6 points, after five rounds of matches. South
Africa sit atop the table with 10 points, after defeating Lesotho 2-0. They're
closely followed by Benin Republic in second, with 8 points, after playing out
a 2-2 draw with Zimbabwe on Thursday, while Rwanda is placed 3rd.
