The 23 Brigade in Yola has dismissed online reports
claiming that women protesters were shot by escorts of the Brigade Commander in
Lamurde Local Government Area, Adamawa State.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Brigade spokesman Capt.
Olusegun Abidoye described the reports as “entirely misleading” and an attempt
to tarnish the reputation of the Brigade and its Commander.
“Contrary to this allegation, neither the Brigade
Commander nor his escorts were present at the scene of the communal clash,” the
statement clarified. Capt. Abidoye added that the Brigade Commander was
participating virtually in the Chief of Army Staff’s weekly operational brief
at the time.
The clashes, which occurred on Monday, were reportedly
triggered by unresolved land disputes and ethnic tensions between the Bachama
and Chobo communities. The statement confirmed that combined troops from the
Army, Police, and other security agencies swiftly intervened to contain the
situation.
Affected communities included Tingno, Rigange, Tito,
Waduku, and Lamurde, where troops moved in to restore normalcy.
