A man, Nura Usman, and his father’s former wife,
Izzatu Aliyu, have been arraigned before a Kano Magistrate’s Court over an
alleged plot to kill his father.
The defendants were brought before Magistrate’s Court
No. 26, sitting in Nomansland and presided over by Magistrate Sakina Aminu.
They were charged with conspiracy to commit an offence and attempted murder.
Prosecuting counsel, Barrister A.I. Buhari, informed
the court that the charges were fresh and sought permission for them to be read
to the defendants. The request was granted, after which the court clerk, Awaisu
Jajira, read the charges.
The prosecution subsequently requested an adjournment
to enable it obtain further directives from the government. The court granted
the request and adjourned the matter until September 7, 2026, for the
re-arraignment of the defendants.
According to the prosecution, Nura, identified as the
complainant’s son, and Izzatu, his former wife, allegedly conspired with others
and offered N500,000 for the killing of Alhaji Usman Shanono, a resident of Dan
Tsinke.
The prosecution told the court that the individual
allegedly approached to carry out the killing later informed Alhaji Usman about
the alleged arrangement involving his son and former wife.
Investigators reportedly staged a fake killing as part
of the plan, with the victim’s wristwatch allegedly taken as supposed evidence
that the murder had occurred.
The prosecution said mourning activities subsequently
began, only for Alhaji Usman to appear alongside security personnel, revealing
that the alleged killing had not taken place.
Security operatives then arrested the suspects
following the discovery of the alleged plot.
The allegations are yet to be proven in court, and the
defendants remain entitled to the presumption of innocence.
