A 9-year-old girl from Texas, JackLynn Blackwell, has died after accidentally strangling herself while attempting a dangerous social media trend known as the “blackout challenge.”

The tragic incident occurred on February 3, 2026, in her family’s backyard, shortly after she had shown her grandmother a video of someone participating in the challenge online.

According to her father, Curtis Blackwell, he became concerned when the surroundings grew unusually quiet. Upon checking, he discovered his daughter unresponsive with a cord around her neck.

Despite efforts to revive her, including CPR before emergency responders arrived, she was later confirmed dead.

The “blackout challenge,” which has circulated on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, involves restricting oxygen flow to the brain, posing serious risks including seizures, brain damage, and death.

JackLynn’s parents have strongly condemned the trend, warning other families about the dangers of children being exposed to harmful online content.

They emphasized that many children, particularly between the ages of 9 and 14, are highly impressionable and may not fully understand the risks involved.

The incident comes amid growing global scrutiny of social media platforms, as legal actions continue in California seeking to hold major tech companies accountable for the impact of harmful content on young users.

Her death has reignited calls for stricter regulations and greater parental awareness to prevent similar tragedies.
