play the game, Baresi dedicated his entire 20-year professional career to AC
Milan. He made 719 appearances for the Rossoneri and was voted the club's
Player of the Century in 1999. In recognition of his extraordinary loyalty and
achievements, AC Milan retired his iconic No. 6 jersey following his retirement
in 1997.

FIFA's centenary celebrations in 2004. He was also inducted into the Italian
Football Hall of Fame in 2013.
On the international stage, Baresi enjoyed remarkable
success with Italy. He was a member of the squad that won the 1982 FIFA World
Cup in Spain and later starred at the 1990 World Cup, where Italy finished
third and he was selected for the tournament's All-Star Team.
Four years later, Baresi captained the Azzurri to the
1994 FIFA World Cup final in the United States, where Italy finished runners-up
after losing to Brazil on penalties. He also represented his country at the
UEFA European Championships in 1980 and 1988, as well as the 1984 Olympic
Games, reaching the semi-finals in each competition.

of football's greatest leaders and defenders, remembered for his loyalty,
