The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God
(RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has disclosed the reasons he refused to stop
those who pray in the name of the ‘God of Adeboye’ from doing so.
The issue of praying in the name of the God of a pastor has
been a source of theological debate for many years. Some theologians believe it
is a form of subtle idolatry, while some believe it is calling undue attention
to the cleric
Adeboye, while speaking at the special programme of the RCCG
at the Redemption Camp along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Wednesday, February
7, 2024, said that it would be wrong to stop those people praying in the name
of the God he serves.
He said: “Some people are saying I should stop those praying
in the name of the God of Adeboye. I don’t know why they are angry that they
are praying in the name of my God. They are not praying in my name. It is the
name of my God. Why should I stop them?
“My God is the El-Shaddai, he is the king of Kings. He is the
Lord of Lords. He is the creator of the whole universe.”
The revered cleric further told the congregation that God
would bring them to a place of influence in no time.
Adeboye prayed that before they leave the world, their names
would be mentioned in strategic places while also urging them to make decrees
about their future.
He recalled the instance of a woman who went to join Fela
Shrine many years ago.
“The mother of the woman came to camp and we prayed
concerning the situation. Suddenly people began to fight the daughter of the
woman in the Fela Shrine and because of that she returned home,” Church Times
quoted the RCCG Overseer as saying.
Adeboye, therefore, urged the congregation to pray fervently
that none of their relatives would go to hell.
