Manchester United have decided against sacking head
coach Michael Carrick, giving the under-pressure manager another chance to turn
around the club's disappointing start to the season.
The decision follows crisis talks among the club's
hierarchy over a string of poor results. It means Carrick will stay in charge
for Saturday's Premier League game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The 45-year-old came under intense pressure after
United lost 3-0 at home to Bournemouth on Sunday, extending their winless run
to eight matches in all competitions. That defeat followed a humiliating 4-1
loss to Como in the Champions League, which further increased scrutiny of his
position at Old Trafford.
According to reports, chief executive Omar Berrada and
director of football Jason Wilcox discussed Carrick's future on Monday before
the club chose to give him more time to improve results.
United are reportedly weighing alternative options,
with former Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe and Germany coach Julian
Nagelsmann among the names linked with the job.
