Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed reports suggesting he has submitted a resignation letter, describing the circulating document as false.

Speaking during an interview with Channels Television, Adelabu clarified that he has not issued any such letter and remains focused on his current responsibilities.

Eyes Still on Oyo Governorship

Despite dismissing the resignation claims, Adelabu confirmed that he remains interested in contesting the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State, with his sights set on the Agodi Government House.

He stated that any formal move regarding his ambition would be made at the appropriate time and with the approval of President Bola Tinubu.

“For now, my priority is service, whether at the national or state level,” he said, reaffirming his commitment to his current role.

APC Mobilisation Efforts Intensify

Within the All Progressives Congress (APC), efforts are already underway to strengthen party unity ahead of the 2027 elections.

A political support group in Oyo State, led by Teslim Folarin, has been engaging stakeholders across all 33 local government areas in a bid to reconcile differences and build a stronger front.

The group’s primary goal is to rally support for President Tinubu’s re-election while positioning the party to capture the Oyo governorship seat.

Emerging Contestants and Party Dynamics

Meanwhile, another APC figure, Sarafadeen Ali, is also reportedly considering a bid for the governorship ticket, signaling potential competition within the party.

Directive on Political Appointees

The developments come after President Tinubu directed political appointees seeking elective positions in 2027 to resign from their roles by March 31.

The directive aligns with provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 and guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) concerning party primaries ahead of the elections.
