The All Progressives Congress has adopted Kano State
Governor Abba Yusuf and Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi as its consensus
candidates for the 2027 governorship elections.
The endorsements were made during the party’s
governorship primaries held across the country on Thursday ahead of the 2027
general elections.
In Kano, Governor Yusuf was affirmed at a
well-attended party congress held at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano
metropolis. The event brought together party leaders, elected officials,
delegates, and supporters from various parts of the state.
Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin moved the motion
for Yusuf’s affirmation, describing him as a leader who has shown strong
commitment to the development of Kano State.
According to Jibrin, Yusuf’s performance in office
made him the party’s preferred candidate for a second term.
The motion was seconded by Senator Abdulrahman Kawu,
who represents Kano South Senatorial District. He said APC members in the state
were united behind the governor and confident of his victory in the election.
Chairman of the Primary Election Committee, Mukhtar
Shagari, said the endorsement reflected Yusuf’s dedication to governance and
public service. He expressed optimism that the party would retain power in the
state, citing the impact of the administration’s policies and programmes.
In his acceptance speech, Governor Yusuf thanked the
party leadership, delegates, and supporters for the confidence shown in him. He
promised to continue delivering people-focused projects in education,
healthcare, agriculture, youth empowerment, and infrastructure.
In Jigawa State, APC members from the 287 wards across
the 27 local government areas endorsed Governor Umar Namadi for a second term.
The affirmation took place at the Dutse Mini Township Stadium.
The exercise was supervised by a national committee
from the APC headquarters, led by Isa Achida, alongside officials of the
Independent National Electoral Commission.
Addressing party members, Governor Namadi pledged to
continue working for the progress of Jigawa State if re-elected.
“Our focus remains on delivering people-oriented
projects and improving the lives of every citizen in Jigawa,” he said.
The event was attended by several prominent APC
figures, including former Jigawa governors Ali Saad and Saminu Turaki, former
deputy governor Ibrahim Hassan, Minister of State for Education Suwaiba Ahmad,
serving and former lawmakers, and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly,
Haruna Aliyu.
