The Northern Nigeria Youth Leaders Forum (NNYLF) has
rejected calls for the resignation of the All Progressives Congress (APC)
National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, describing those behind the
demand as individuals with questionable motives and no genuine link to the
ruling party.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja, the National
President of the Forum, Murtala Gamji, said the calls do not represent the true
interest of APC members. He maintained that the individuals pushing the agenda
lacked both moral and political credibility to question Yilwatda’s leadership.
This reaction follows a statement issued by the All
Progressives Congress Youth Solidarity Network (APC-YSN), led by Comrade Danesi
Momoh Prince, which had given Yilwatda a two-week ultimatum to resign or face
mass protests. The group accused the chairman of poor performance and blamed
him for a decline in the party’s popularity, alleging it could threaten
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election chances.
In response, Gamji dismissed the APC-YSN as a front
for opposition interests, claiming its leader was, in fact, a member of the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“That individual calling on our National Chairman to
resign is not even a member of the APC,” Gamji said. “We attended ABU Zaria
together. He is from Auchi and a known PDP member who has even been sanctioned
within the party in Edo State. We don’t know his connection with our
untouchable chairman.”
The Forum also refuted claims that Yilwatda had
blocked Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang from defecting to the APC,
insisting that the party chairman is a democrat who welcomes new members.
“The governor himself admitted that he is under
pressure to join the APC. Nobody is stopping him,” Gamji clarified.
The NNYLF further warned against attempts to
destabilize the APC leadership and criticized calls for President Tinubu to
investigate the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, describing such
moves as unpatriotic and harmful to national unity.
