Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully thwarted
a terrorist attack in Kaduna State, rescuing 31 worshippers who were abducted
during an Easter service in Ariko Village, located in Kachia Local Government
Area.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Army said it
acted swiftly after receiving a distress alert about an ongoing attack at an
ECWA Church in the community, where worshippers had been taken hostage.
According to the military, troops immediately
mobilised to the area and, with the assistance of local residents, pursued the
fleeing attackers. The operation led to a fierce exchange of gunfire, during
which the troops reportedly overpowered the terrorists with superior firepower.
As pressure mounted from the advancing soldiers, the
attackers abandoned 31 captives, including one individual who sustained
injuries and is currently receiving medical care.
However, the Army confirmed that the remains of five
victims were discovered at the scene, indicating that they had been killed
before the arrival of security forces.
Military authorities noted that there were signs
suggesting the attackers suffered casualties during the confrontation, as blood
trails were observed along their escape routes.
Following the rescue, troops have intensified pursuit
operations to track down the fleeing suspects and dismantle their hideouts.
Additional personnel have also been deployed to the area to strengthen
security, prevent further attacks, and reassure residents.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to
safeguarding lives and maintaining national security, stressing that it will
continue offensive operations against all threats.
The military also called on members of the public to
support security efforts by providing timely and credible information,
emphasizing that community cooperation remains crucial in restoring lasting
peace and stability.
