Arsenal began the 2026/27 campaign in impressive
fashion, defeating Manchester City 3-0 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff
to claim the Community Shield.
The Gunners made a fast start and opened the scoring
within the opening seconds of the encounter.
Myles Lewis-Skelly found Riccardo Calafiori inside the
penalty area, with the defender keeping his composure to guide the ball past
Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who had committed himself
early.
Arsenal doubled their advantage before half-time after
Donnarumma failed to hold Kai Havertz’s header, allowing the ball to end up in
the back of the net.
Mikel Arteta’s side continued to control proceedings
after the break and eventually added a third goal through captain Martin
Ødegaard, who dribbled into the box before finishing confidently.
The victory gives Arsenal their first silverware of
the new season and provides a major confidence boost ahead of the Premier
League title defence.
Arsenal will begin their league campaign against
Coventry City on Friday, while Manchester City are set to face Bournemouth.
