The campaign council of Osun State Governor Ademola
Adeleke has denied claims that the governor has a political agreement with
President Bola Tinubu following his re-election in the state.
The council’s spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, made
the clarification in a statement shared on X in response to comments by the
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.
Keyamo had congratulated Adeleke on his victory in the
August 15 governorship election and accompanied his message with the remark,
“Agreement is agreement.”
The statement generated reactions, with some
interpreting the minister’s comment as an indication of a private political
arrangement between Adeleke and Tinubu.
However, Adeleke’s campaign council dismissed the
speculation, insisting that the governor’s support for the President is based
on Tinubu’s performance and economic reforms rather than any political pact.
The council said the reforms had helped strengthen the
economic position of states and influenced Adeleke’s assessment of the
administration.
It also urged Nigerians not to diminish the efforts of
Osun voters in determining the outcome of the election.
“Do not undermine the resilience of Osun people. There
is no agreement,” the council stated, adding that its support for Tinubu was
based on his performance and reforms that had strengthened states economically.
Adeleke secured 511,067 votes in the election to
defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress
(APC), who polled 444,815 votes.
