Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement with
Atalanta for the transfer of Nigerian international Ademola Lookman, with the
player already in the Spanish capital to complete the move.
In a statement, Atletico confirmed that both clubs
have finalised the deal for the 28-year-old winger, noting that the transfer is
now subject to a medical examination and the signing of personal terms.
Media reports estimate the deal to be worth around €40
million ($47.5 million).
Lookman arrives in Madrid off the back of impressive
performances in recent years, including a historic hat-trick for Atalanta in
their Europa League final victory over Bayer Leverkusen in 2024. He also played
a key role in Nigeria’s strong showing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in
Morocco.
This season, the forward has registered three goals in
19 appearances across all competitions for the Italian side.
Born in London, Lookman began his professional career
at Charlton Athletic before earning a move to Everton. He later joined RB
Leipzig, making the switch permanent in 2019, but spent time on loan at Fulham
and Leicester City before settling at Atalanta in 2022.
Atletico manager Diego Simeone has been eager to
strengthen his squad following the departures of Giacomo Raspadori to Atalanta
and Conor Gallagher to Tottenham earlier in the winter transfer window.
The arrival of Lookman could also provide a boost to
Atletico’s attack, with striker Julián Álvarez currently struggling for form
after failing to score in his last 11 La Liga outings.
