The bandits responsible for the abduction of 38
worshippers from Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, in the Ekiti Local
Government Area of Kwara State, have demanded a ransom of ?100 million per
victim.
According to Leadership newspaper, the
kidnappers have begun contacting families of the abducted worshippers, who were
taken during a church service on Tuesday.
Chief Olusegun Olukotun, the Olori Eta of Eruku and a
community leader, confirmed the development on Thursday, November 20. Four of
his relatives are among the abductees.
Olukotun explained that he was in the church with five
family members when the attackers stormed the building around 6:06 p.m. He and
one of his wards managed to escape through a window.
He said the kidnappers have divided the captives into
groups based on their families and have started calling community members to
make ransom demands.
“Some people in the community have received calls from
the kidnappers demanding ?100 million for each person. As for my own family
members, I haven’t received any call yet, so I’m still waiting,” he stated.
The attackers had invaded the church during an evening
service, killing five people and abducting 38 others.
Authorities and security agencies have not yet issued
an official update on rescue efforts.
