Justice James Omotoso of the Federal High Court,
Abuja, has sentenced Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of
Biafra (IPOB), to life imprisonment after finding him guilty of
terrorism-related charges.
Kanu received a life sentence on Counts 4, 5, and 6 of
the seven-count charge brought against him by the Federal Government. The court
additionally sentenced him to 20 years in prison on Count 3.
The judgment marks one of the most consequential
rulings in Nigeria’s recent legal history regarding separatist activities and
national security.
