The Bauchi State Muslim Parliament has endorsed the peace-building efforts of Senator Shehu Buba, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Security and National Intelligence.

Speaking at a press conference in Bauchi on Saturday, the group declared its “total support” for Buba’s use of dialogue as a tool for resolving conflicts, particularly in Northern Nigeria.

Chairman of the Parliament, Ahmad Yusuf, praised the senator, who represents Bauchi South Senatorial District, for championing peaceful conflict resolution and strengthening national security. He said Buba’s approach aligns with the organisation’s vision of promoting unity and peaceful coexistence.

Yusuf highlighted Buba’s initiatives to foster understanding between farming communities and pastoralists, combining dialogue with economic empowerment — a model he likened to strategies that helped stabilise the Niger Delta.

Another member, Hamza Abubakar, argued that years of armed confrontation with Boko Haram and other threats had failed to end insecurity. Citing progress in Kaduna through dialogue, he urged broader adoption of Buba’s methods across the country.

The Muslim Parliament also condemned what it described as a “vicious smear campaign” against the senator, dismissing the attacks as “character assassination” aimed at undermining his contributions.

The group called on stakeholders to support peace initiatives, urged government to address the grievances of conflict victims, and cautioned politicians against using national security as a political tool.

Senator Buba has consistently advocated for non-kinetic approaches to complement military efforts, emphasising dialogue, reconciliation, and socio-economic renewal. His academic background in Peace Studies and Conflict Management informs his work, and he is currently pursuing a PhD on the drivers of banditry in Zamfara and Kaduna States.
