Bauchi Police Arrest 70-Year-Old Watchman for Allegedly Molesting Teenage Girls, Recover Stolen Vehicle in Separate Case

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 70-year-old watchman, Lawan Sani, for allegedly molesting three teenage girls in the Unguwar Sarakuna area of Bauchi.

Sexual Assault Case

Police spokesman SP Ahmed Wakil, in a statement on Monday, said the case was reported around 4:00 a.m. on September 1 after a distress call revealed that Sani attempted to rape a 16-year-old girl in a house where he worked as a night guard.

“During interrogation, he confessed to having previously influenced the minor with N500 into the same residence. Investigation further indicated that the suspect had sexually molested two additional teenagers using the same method,” Wakil said.

The victims later confirmed the allegations during interviews with investigators, disclosing that the suspect had molested them over 15 times on different occasions while threatening them against speaking out.

Both the victims and the suspect have since undergone medical examinations as investigations continue.

Stolen Vehicle Recovery

In a separate operation, police also arrested 30-year-old Ibrahim Uzairu of Fantami, Gombe State, for allegedly being in possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.

According to the Command, detectives attached to ‘B’ Division, GRA, apprehended the suspect at an exclusive hotel along Ahmadu Bello Way, Bauchi, on September 6. He was found with a gold and ash-coloured Toyota Sienna (registration number DKN-254-DW) and a bunch of keys.

During interrogation, Uzairu confessed to conspiring with two others, identified as Sani alias Mulmule and Abdullahi alias Abdul, both from Gombe State, to steal the vehicle from Tsohuwar Kasuwa, Gombe. The suspect will be handed over to the Gombe State Police Command for further investigation.

Police Call for Support

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, psc(+) mni, reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling rising crime in the state, stressing that enhanced policing capabilities and collaboration with stakeholders are critical to community safety.

“Security is a shared responsibility. We encourage the support of all citizens and sectors as we work together to ensure peace and safety,” the CP stated.
