British-Nigerian defender Michael Kayode has signed a new long-term contract with Premier League side Brentford, committing his future to the club until June 2032.

The new agreement also includes an option for Brentford to extend the deal by an additional year, underlining the club's confidence in the 21-year-old full-back.

Kayode joined the Bees permanently from Italian club Fiorentina last summer in a deal worth €18 million after initially arriving on loan in January 2025. Since then, he has established himself as a key member of the squad with a series of impressive performances.

Speaking after signing the new contract, Kayode expressed his delight at continuing his journey with the West London club.

"I feel like this club is a family, so I wanted to continue my journey here. I have amazing relationships that make me really like coming in every morning to train and have fun with my team-mates, the staff and everyone around the club," he told Brentford's official website.

"Ever since I joined the club, everything has been amazing. It feels like I've been playing for Brentford for 10 years. I've improved a lot on and off the pitch, and that's really important for me."

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews praised the defender's rapid development and described him as an important figure within the squad.

"Michael had an amazing season last year. He epitomised everything good that we do. His development and evolution have been really, really impressive," Andrews said.

"He's someone we love working with every single day. He brings great enthusiasm, is a joy to coach, and we're absolutely delighted that he wants to stay. This new contract is thoroughly deserved."

Kayode enjoyed an impressive first full campaign in English football, making 44 appearances in all competitions while contributing one goal and two assists. His performances also earned him a nomination for the Premier League Young Player of the Season award, highlighting his growing reputation as one of the league's brightest young defenders.
