The Senate of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has expelled 57 students over their involvement in examination misconduct. The decision was reached during the Senate’s 427th meeting held on September 10, 2025, in line with the institution’s General Examination and Academic Regulations (GEAR) for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Director of the Directorate of Examinations, Admissions, and Records (DEAR), Malam Aminu Wada Kurawa.

Breakdown of Disciplinary Actions

  • 57 students expelled across different faculties and departments.
  • 8 students rusticated for various levels of examination malpractice.
  • 2 students exonerated after further review of their cases.
  • The case of Yusuf Muhammad Sani (ENG/18/CIV/00065) was deferred, pending the outcome of an investigation by the Senate Business Committee (SBC).

University’s Stance on Academic Integrity

The Senate reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy toward academic misconduct, stressing that strict enforcement of regulations is necessary to maintain academic standards, integrity, and discipline within the university community.
