Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir
Yusuf, has forwarded the names of two nominees to the State
House of Assembly for confirmation as commissioners, while also announcing
the appointment of a new Solicitor-General for the state.
Commissioner Nominees
The nominees are:
- Barrister
Abdulkarim Kabir Maude (40) – A Senior
Advocate of Nigeria (SAN)-designate from Minjibir LGA, set to be
conferred with the SAN title at the Supreme Court on Monday. A
graduate of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria with an LLB (Hons.),
Maude also holds advanced law degrees from Maryam Abacha American
University of Niger and Bayero University Kano (BUK). He has
over a decade of legal practice experience, previously served as Kano head
of chambers in a top Nigerian law firm, and is a member of the Nigerian
Bar Association (NBA) and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
- Dr.
Aliyu Isa Aliyu (41) – An Associate Professor of
Allied Mathematics, currently serving as Statistician-General/Director
General of the Kano State Bureau of Statistics. Dr. Aliyu holds a B.Sc.
in Mathematics (BUK), M.Sc. (Jordan University of Science and
Technology), and Ph.D. (Firat University, Turkey). A former
beneficiary of the Kwankwasiyya foreign scholarship, he has
completed postdoctoral fellowships in China and Cyprus and has held
academic roles at Federal University Dutse and North West
University Kano. He also previously served as Financial Secretary
of NNPP, Kano State Chapter.
New Solicitor-General
In a separate appointment, the governor named Barrister
Salisu Muhammad Tahir as the new Solicitor-General and Permanent
Secretary, Ministry of Justice. Tahir, who was formerly the Director of
Public Prosecution, will officially assume duty on Monday.
Governor’s Assurance
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesman, Sanusi
Bature, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to competence,
professionalism, and integrity in public service, noting that the
appointments reflect his strategy to strengthen governance in Kano State.
