A high-capacity bus was engulfed by fire on the Third
Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Tuesday, causing traffic disruption along the busy
route.
The bus was reportedly travelling towards Iyana Oworo
when the incident occurred near the Adekunle axis of the bridge. As of the time
of filing this report, it remained unclear whether there were any casualties.
The incident led to heavy traffic congestion,
prompting the deployment of firefighters from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue
Service to contain the blaze.
Confirming the development in a statement shared on X,
the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said emergency responders
were on ground and efforts were underway to bring the situation under control.
“A high-capacity bus is on fire on the Third Mainland
Bridge, by Adekunle, inwards Iyana Oworo, affecting traffic,” the agency
stated.
LASTMA added that its officials were managing traffic
in the area to ease congestion while firefighting operations continued.
