Chelsea secured a 4-1 victory over Aston Villa at
Villa Park on Wednesday, with Joao Pedro netting a hat-trick to help Unai
Emery’s side climb to fifth in the Premier League.
Villa had taken an early lead when Douglas Luiz
flicked home in the second minute, but Joao Pedro equalised in the 35th minute
with his 12th league goal of the season. Moments before half-time, the
Brazilian struck again with a clever chip over the goalkeeper to give Chelsea
the lead.
In the second half, Cole Palmer made it 3-1 before
Joao Pedro completed his hat-trick by tapping in a cross from Alejandro
Garnacho.
The win moves Chelsea to within three points of
fourth-placed Villa, keeping their hopes of a Champions League spot alive.
Elsewhere, West Ham defeated Fulham 1-0 thanks to
Crysencio Summerville, moving level with Nottingham Forest on 28 points. Both
teams now trail Tottenham Hotspur by just one point ahead of Thursday’s match
against Crystal Palace.
