The Executive Committee of Nigeria Football Federation
held a meeting at the NFF Secretariat, Abuja on Tuesday, 29th July 2025 to
deliberate on important issues in Nigeria Football and resolved as follows:
1) The Executive Committee expressed deep appreciation
to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) for the soul-lifting
gestures of national awards, three-bedroom apartments and cash rewards to
players and officials of the senior women national football team, Super
Falcons, for winning the Women Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco. The
committee believes that the kind gestures of Mr. President will go a long way
in encouraging the girl-child to take up the beautiful game, and reinvigorate the
women’s football sector while enabling a rich conveyor belt for supplies to the
various National Teams.
2) In the same vein, the Executive Committee commended
the resoluteness, discipline, dedication, boundless energy and unfailing team
spirit of the Super Falcons in conquering the whole of Africa at the 13th edition
of the Women AFCON, thereby achieving a record-extending 10th triumph
in the continent’s flagship championship for women. The committee declared that
the victory, and the spirit behind it, particularly the come-from-behind win in
the Final against the host nation, was a bold statement of perseverance,
commitment to the cause and unalloyed patriotism.
3) The Executive Committee asserted that the Super Falcons’
remarkable achievement in Morocco will become referential for the various
National Teams in their international engagements going forward, particularly
the Super Eagles in their quest for a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which
resumes in a few weeks.
4) The Executive Committee expressed satisfaction with
the preparation of the home-based senior men’s team, Super Eagles B, ahead of
the 8th African Nations Championship, and charged the team to
go all out for victory at the competition taking place in Kenya, Tanzania and
Uganda, 2nd – 30th August 2025. The committee
reflected that the team had an intensive first-phase camping at the Remo Stars
Sports Institute, Ikenne-Remo, and has continued with the same intensity since
arriving four days ago to Zanzibar, venue of their first two matches against
Cup holders Senegal and Sudan.
5) With few weeks to their very crucial 2026 FIFA
World Cup qualifying matches against Rwanda (home) and South Africa (away in
Bloemfontein), the Executive Committee charged the NFF Secretariat to ensure
seamless arrangements for the Super Eagles’ logistics, accommodation, travels,
training and general match preparation for the two matches.
6) Following the defeat of the U20 Boys, Flying
Eagles, in the Final of the WAFU B U20 Boys Championship which ended in Ghana
six days ago, the Executive Committee charged the technical crew to intensify
its work on the team, with the FIFA U20 World Cup Chile 2025 starting in about
six weeks’ time.
7) While congratulating Coach Moses Aduku as the new
Head Coach of the U20 Girls National Team, Falconets, the Executive Committee
charged him to work assiduously with his assistants and administrative staff to
raise a new Falconets’ team that Nigeria will be proud of, starting from their
2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifying fixture against their Rwandan
counterparts in September.
8) Similarly, the Executive Committee congratulated
Coach Manu Garba on his return as Head Coach of the U17 Boys National Team,
Golden Eaglets, the committee charged him to work tenaciously towards producing
another world-beating Nigeria U17 Boys’ squad, with the WAFU B U17 Boys
Tournament that Nigeria will host in September as a first test of strength and
ability.
