A Sagamu Magistrate’s Court has
again adjourned the trial of Adeniyi Mobolaji, the driver involved in the
accident that claimed the lives of two close associates of heavyweight boxer
Anthony Joshua.
The case was postponed to March 17
to allow the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who recently took over the
matter, adequate time to prepare for the hearing.
Mobolaji faces multiple charges,
including dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving,
driving without due care and attention resulting in bodily harm and property
damage, and driving without a valid national driver’s licence.
The defendant was first arraigned on
January 2 before Magistrate Olufunilayo Somefun at the Sagamu Magistrate’s
Court.
The fatal crash occurred on December
29, 2025, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when a Lexus SUV collided with a
stationary truck. The accident led to the deaths of Joshua’s personal trainer,
Latif Ayodele, and his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami.
Joshua and the driver sustained
minor injuries and were treated. The boxer was later discharged after being
declared clinically stable.
The remains of Ayodele and Ghami
were repatriated to the United Kingdom, where a funeral prayer was held on
January 4, 2026, at the London Central Mosque.
Their deaths sparked widespread
tributes from the global boxing community, where both men were regarded as key
figures in Joshua’s professional team.
The trial of Adeniyi Mobolaji, the
driver linked to the accident that killed two members of Anthony Joshua’s camp,
has been adjourned for a second time.
The Sagamu Magistrate’s Court
granted an application from the Director of Public Prosecutions’ office, which
recently assumed control of the case, to enable proper preparation before the
hearing begins.
Mobolaji is facing charges ranging
from dangerous driving causing death to negligent driving and operating a
vehicle without a valid licence.
The December 29, 2025 crash along

rites following a prayer service at the London Central Mosque.
The court is expected to resume
