Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, in the sum of ?200 million over the cybercrime charges filed against him.

Delivering his ruling on Tuesday, the judge ordered Sowore to provide two sureties as part of the bail conditions.

According to the court, one of the sureties must be a traditional ruler from Sowore's community, while the second must be a property owner with landed assets in Abuja. The prosecution was also directed to verify both sureties before the bail conditions can be fully perfected.

Justice Umar further ordered the AAC chieftain to surrender his international passport to the Deputy Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court pending the conclusion of the trial.

Following the ruling, the court released Sowore into the custody of his legal representatives.

The matter was subsequently adjourned until Monday, July 6, when Sowore is expected to open his defence in the ongoing cybercrime trial.
