Manchester United pulled off a stunning late victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, winning 3-2 in a thrilling Premier League encounter.

Lisandro Martinez’s own goal gave Arsenal an early lead, but Bryan Mbeumo capitalised on a defensive error to level the score before half-time. After the break, Patrick Dorgu’s superb strike put United ahead, only for Mikel Merino to bundle in a late equaliser, seemingly rescuing a point for the Gunners.

However, Brazilian forward Cunha produced a sensational finish in the 87th minute to seal the win, handing Arsenal their first defeat in 13 games across all competitions. It was also the Gunners’ first home loss in 18 matches since a defeat to Bournemouth in May.

Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League has now been trimmed to just four points, with second-placed Manchester City and third-placed Aston Villa closing the gap following weekend victories.

The result adds pressure on Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, who has yet to lift a trophy since the 2020 FA Cup and faces the challenge of sustaining a title challenge after previous late-season disappointments.

United’s win also continued Michael Carrick’s impressive start as interim manager. Since replacing Ruben Amorim, Carrick has masterminded victories over the top two — Manchester City and now Arsenal — lifting United into fourth place.

Match Highlights

  • Arsenal opened the scoring in the 29th minute when a poor clearance from Martinez off Martin Odegaard’s miscue found the back of the net.
  • United equalised in the 37th minute through Mbeumo, who capitalised on a sloppy back pass from Zubimendi.
  • Five minutes after the interval, Dorgu’s stunning 20-yard strike put United ahead, despite Arsenal appeals for handball.
  • Merino’s close-range finish in the 84th minute brought Arsenal level once again from a corner.
  • Cunha struck three minutes later, converting a Fernandes–Mainoo combination into a sensational winner from outside the box.

The victory marks United’s first win at the Emirates since December 2017 and underscores Carrick’s strong start in charge, while raising fresh concerns for Arsenal as the title race intensifies.
