The Department of State
Services (DSS) has arrested three suspected gunrunners in coordinated
sting operations across Igabi and Kachia Local Government Areas of
Kaduna State.
According to the agency, a 30-year-old
suspect was intercepted along the Nnamdi Azikiwe Bypass in Igabi
while transporting two AK-47 rifles, one PKT machine gun, over 200 rounds of
live ammunition, and four empty magazines concealed in sacks of maize.
Two other suspects were
apprehended at Doka village in Kachia along the Abuja–Kaduna
Expressway while trafficking three AK-47 rifles to bandits in a Volkswagen
Golf car.
Reacting to the arrests, Governor
Uba Sani commended the DSS for the successful operation, stressing that
there would be no hiding place for bandits and arms traffickers under
his administration.
Speaking through his Commissioner
for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Sule Shuaibu (SAN), the governor
also appreciated President Bola Tinubu and the DSS Director-General
for their continued support of Kaduna’s security framework.
He noted that his
government’s non-kinetic peace model has helped reduce crime rates
across the state and warned criminal elements to desist from acts threatening
public safety.
The DSS said
investigations are ongoing and assured that the suspects would be prosecuted
accordingly, reaffirming its commitment to curbing arms trafficking
and preventing Kaduna from becoming a corridor for illegal weapons.
