Meta is planning a
round of job cuts affecting some of its artificial intelligence (AI) product
and infrastructure teams, though its high-profile TBD Lab will
remain untouched, according to reports from the Wall Street Journal and The
New York Times.
The TBD Lab, established by CEO Mark Zuckerberg,
rapidly expanded after attracting top AI researchers from OpenAI and Apple
with lucrative compensation packages.
The job cuts are reportedly aimed at reducing
“organizational bloat” and improving efficiency across Meta’s AI division,
which has seen aggressive hiring in recent years. However, the company is
expected to redeploy many affected employees to other roles rather than
lay them off entirely.
In an internal memo cited by both newspapers, Chief
AI Officer Alexandr Wang said the restructuring would streamline
decision-making, noting that “fewer conversations will be required to make a
decision.”
Meta has yet to comment publicly on the reports.
