The Department of State Services (DSS), working alongside forest guards in Borno State, has intercepted a large consignment of medical supplies suspected to be intended for members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during a counter-terrorism operation in the North-East.

Security sources disclosed that the seizure took place on Friday, June 5, 2026, in Kaga Local Government Area following intelligence reports about a suspected insurgent supply route operating through forested areas of the state.

According to the sources, the recovered items included significant quantities of pain-relief drugs, anti-malaria injections, antibiotics, and other pharmaceutical products. Basic consumables believed to be part of a broader logistics support package for insurgent fighters were also reportedly found among the seized materials.

Investigators believe the consignment was intended to replenish ISWAP elements that may have suffered casualties and logistical setbacks during recent intelligence-driven operations carried out by Nigerian security forces, reportedly with support from international partners.

While authorities declined to provide detailed operational information, they described the interception as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist supply chains and weaken insurgent capabilities across the region.

Security officials said preliminary findings suggest the supplies were being transported discreetly in small batches through forest corridors to evade detection by patrol teams and surveillance operations.

The seized materials have since been taken into custody and are undergoing forensic examination as part of ongoing investigations aimed at identifying those involved in the procurement, transportation, and intended delivery of the supplies.

Authorities noted that disrupting logistics networks remains a critical aspect of counter-insurgency operations, as access to medical supplies, food, and other resources often enables terrorist groups to sustain their activities in remote locations.

The latest operation underscores continued efforts by security agencies to dismantle support structures linked to insurgent groups and strengthen security across Nigeria’s North-East region.
