Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, Nigeria D’Tigress, have been placed in Group B for the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup, where they will compete against France, Hungary, and South Korea.

The draw, conducted in Berlin, presents a challenging group for the reigning African champions. France, currently ranked second in the world, are widely regarded as the strongest contenders in the group and are expected to set the pace.

Nigeria, ranked eighth globally, will aim to build on their strong continental performances as they target progression to the knockout stage. The team continues to establish itself as one of Africa’s most dominant sides in women’s basketball.

Also in Group B are South Korea, ranked 15th, and Hungary, ranked 19th. Both teams are known for their structured and disciplined playing styles, making the group highly competitive.

Led by head coach Rena Wakama, the team secured qualification after winning a record fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title last year.

As part of their preparation, D’Tigress are scheduled to tour the United States later this month, where they will play friendly matches against WNBA teams including the Los Angeles Sparks and Indiana Fever.

Elsewhere in the tournament draw, Group A includes hosts Germany, Japan, Spain, and Mali, while Group C features Belgium, Australia, Puerto Rico, and Turkey. Group D consists of defending champions the United States, China, Czech Republic, and Italy.

The 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup will be held in Berlin, Germany, from September 4 to 13, 2026.
