The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)
has arraigned self-proclaimed relationship therapist and social media
personality, Blessing Okoro, before the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos,
over allegations of obtaining N13 million under false pretences.
The defendant was brought before Justice Yelim Bogoro
on Tuesday, June 10, on a six-count charge involving alleged fraud and the
retention of proceeds suspected to have been acquired through unlawful means.
According to the EFCC, the charges stem from petitions
submitted by several individuals and organizations, including the Nigeria
Cancer Society. The petitions alleged that Blessing solicited financial support
from members of the public after claiming she was battling Stage 4 breast
cancer and required urgent funds for treatment.
The anti-graft agency stated that many Nigerians made
donations based on those claims. However, investigations reportedly revealed
that the medical documents presented to support the appeal were allegedly
forged.
The EFCC further alleged that the N13 million raised
through public donations was obtained through misrepresentation and
subsequently retained by the defendant.
This latest arraignment adds to the growing legal
troubles facing Blessing CEO. Just a day earlier, she was arraigned before
Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja over a
separate alleged fraud case involving N69.15 million.
In that matter, prosecutors accused her of obtaining
money by false pretence and theft.
With the new charges filed at the Federal High Court,
Blessing CEO is now facing three separate criminal cases before different
courts in Lagos.
The cases are expected to proceed through the judicial
process, where the allegations against her will be examined and determined by
the courts.
