The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited the immediate past Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, for questioning.

The invitation was contained in a letter dated November 24, directing the former minister to appear before investigators on Friday, November 28, at the EFCC Headquarters, Institution and Research District, Jabi, Abuja.

According to the letter, signed by Sunday Atiba Ofen-Imu on behalf of EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, Malami’s appearance is necessary to assist an ongoing investigation.

“The Commission is investigating a case which the need to obtain certain information from you becomes imperative,”
the letter read.

It further directed him to present himself to the Head, Special Duty Committee-3, citing Section 38(1) and (2) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2024, as the basis for the request.

The EFCC did not disclose the specific allegations or subject matter prompting the invitation.

Malami Responds, Says He Will Honour EFCC Invitation

In a statement issued Friday and obtained by Channels Television, Malami confirmed receiving the EFCC summons and pledged full cooperation with investigators.

“This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC. As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation,”
he stated.

The former minister said transparency and accountability have always guided his public service conduct.

“I understand the spirit of accountability and transparency in public service — the principles that I both advocate and champion.
Rooted in public service and in the spirit of transparency and accountability, I am committed to sharing with the Nigerian public the developments as they unfold,”
he added.

Malami served as Attorney General of the Federation under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
