Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has
been granted temporary bail from the custody of the Independent Corrupt
Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The release is to allow him attend the burial rites of
his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who passed away in Cairo, Egypt, on Friday,
March 27.
His son, Bashir El-Rufai, confirmed the development in
a post on social media, expressing appreciation for the support received during
the period.
El-Rufai has been in ICPC custody since February 18
over allegations related to financial misconduct and other offences. He was
recently arraigned before the Kaduna division of the Federal High Court.
The former governor appeared in court alongside Joel
Adoga, facing charges that include alleged conversion and unlawful possession
of public assets, as well as money laundering. He has denied the allegations.
The court has scheduled March 31, 2026, to rule on his
bail application, while legal proceedings in the matter continue.
