Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has
cautioned that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) may struggle in the 2027
presidential election if Peter Obi is not its candidate.
Fayose made the remarks while also offering an
assessment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration during the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) national convention in Abuja.
He gave a mixed evaluation of Tinubu’s performance,
acknowledging some positive efforts while noting that the government has not
fully met expectations when compared to past administrations.
Turning to opposition politics, Fayose stressed that
Obi remains a crucial figure for the ADC’s electoral prospects. He suggested
that without Obi on the party’s ticket, its chances in the 2027 race could be
significantly weakened.
Fayose also hinted at internal political dynamics,
suggesting that Atiku Abubakar could emerge as a likely candidate, while
expressing uncertainty about Obi’s political path ahead of the election.
Although he described Obi as a capable and respected
figure, Fayose questioned the feasibility of his presidential ambition in the
current political climate.
