The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has
arrested 66 suspects following coordinated raids on criminal hideouts and black
spots across various parts of Abuja.
The intelligence-driven operation, which took place
late Monday night, was carried out simultaneously in locations under the
jurisdiction of Lugbe, Karu, Kurudu, Maitama, Dutse Alhaji, Gwagwa, Dawaki,
Nyanya, and Lokogoma Divisions.
Security sources disclosed that the operation targeted
uncompleted buildings and suspected criminal enclaves notorious for harboring
illicit activities, including drug use and petty crimes.
“During the raid, quantities of dried leaves suspected
to be Indian hemp and various other illicit drugs were recovered from the
suspects,” one of the sources said.
All 66 suspects are currently in custody and
undergoing screening and interrogation at their respective divisional police
headquarters.
Authorities noted that those found culpable will be
charged to court upon completion of investigations, while others cleared during
profiling will be released accordingly.
The FCT Police Command reiterated its commitment to
sustaining aggressive operations aimed at ridding the territory of criminal
elements and ensuring the safety and security of residents.
