The Federal Government has approved a new Kidney
Dialysis Subsidy Scheme, reducing the cost of dialysis sessions from ?50,000
to ?12,000.
Deputy Director and Head of Information and Public
Relations at the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Mr. Alaba Balogun,
announced the development in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday.
Balogun explained that the initiative is aimed at easing
the financial burden on patients, especially vulnerable Nigerians, while
advancing the goal of Universal Health Coverage.
“This measure reflects the current administration’s
commitment to easing the challenges faced by patients with kidney conditions
and enhancing access to quality healthcare,” he said.
Pilot Phase Across 11 Federal Hospitals
The subsidy program is currently being piloted in 11
federal tertiary hospitals across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones. The
participating facilities include:
Balogun clarified that Northwestern states are not
excluded from the program, stressing that the government remains committed
to inclusive healthcare access nationwide under its Renewed Hope
Agenda.
He further revealed that additional federal
hospitals will be incorporated in the coming months to expand access to subsidized
dialysis sessions across the country.
