Meta has unveiled a groundbreaking AI-powered translation tool designed to help creators connect with audiences worldwide by automatically dubbing and lip-syncing Reels into different languages.

The feature, rolled out on Tuesday, uses artificial intelligence to not only translate words but also replicate the sound, tone, and style of a creator’s voice while syncing lip movements to match the translated audio. This makes it appear as though the creator is genuinely speaking the translated language — a development Meta says will boost authenticity and engagement.

“With Meta AI translations, you can speak to viewers in their own language, opening up your content to new audiences that may not have found it accessible before,” the company said in a statement.

How It Works

For now, the AI translation feature supports English-to-Spanish and Spanish-to-English, with more languages expected to roll out in the coming months.

Access is currently available to Facebook creators with at least 1,000 followers and to all public Instagram accounts.

  • On Facebook, creators can enable the tool by clicking “Translate your voice with Meta AI” before publishing a Reel.
  • Creators can choose to activate lip syncing, preview translations before sharing, and disable them at any time.
  • Once published, viewers will automatically see Reels in their preferred language, while creators can track performance insights showing how many views came from each translated version.

Meta recommends that creators use the tool with face-to-camera videos, minimal background noise, and no overlapping speech for best results.

More Benefits for Creators

In addition to the AI translations, Facebook creators will also be able to upload up to 20 dubbed audio tracks per Reel, giving them the flexibility to expand their content into non-English and non-Spanish markets. This feature is available under the “Closed captions and translations” section of the Meta Business Suite and supports edits both before and after publishing.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri explained:

“We believe there are lots of amazing creators out there who have potential audiences who don’t necessarily speak the same language. If we can help you reach across cultural and linguistic barriers, we can help you grow your following and get more value out of Instagram and the platform.”

What You Should Know

The launch builds on Meta’s push to support global creators. In July 2024, Nigerian content creators became eligible for Facebook monetization through In-Stream Ads and Ads on Reels. The company requires creators to meet certain eligibility criteria, such as a minimum of 5,000 followers for in-stream ads, while Reels monetization is more broadly available.

With the new AI voice translation tool, Meta is positioning itself as a leader in AI-driven creator tools, opening up new opportunities for international reach, growth, and monetization.
