Rehabilitation work on the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway is set to resume after being temporarily suspended due to severe gridlock.

The Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Layi Komolafe, announced that the replacement of expansion joints on Kara Bridge outward Lagos is essential and cannot be delayed.

In a statement on Monday, Komolafe said full operations at the affected section are scheduled to recommence on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. He called for the cooperation of key agencies, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Lagos State Police Command, and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), to help manage traffic flow during the exercise.

He acknowledged that the repair work would likely worsen traffic congestion, particularly for vehicles heading into Lagos, and urged motorists to comply with traffic directives from relevant authorities.

However, some uncertainty remains over whether the repairs will restart as planned. FRSC officials have expressed doubts about the feasibility of resuming work on Wednesday.

Last month, the FRSC disclosed that ongoing repairs along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway could take between six weeks and two months to complete. Lagos State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Ganiyu Hamzat, explained that certain repairs require time to properly seal and stabilize.

Hamzat also noted that damaged sections of the highway have been contributing to accidents, as drivers attempting to avoid bad portions of the road often collide with oncoming or unsuspecting vehicles.

The Lagos–Ibadan Expressway remains one of Nigeria’s busiest and most strategic highways, linking Lagos — the country’s commercial hub — to the South-East, South-South, and other parts of the nation.
