Global football governing body FIFA has opened
disciplinary proceedings against top officials of the Congolese Football
Federation (FECOFOOT) following allegations of financial mismanagement.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, FIFA confirmed that
the investigation involves FECOFOOT president Jean-Guy Mayolas, who is facing
serious accusations related to the misuse of funds.
The development comes shortly after a criminal court
in Brazzaville reportedly sentenced Mayolas, along with members of his family,
to life imprisonment over the embezzlement of approximately $1.1 million
belonging to FIFA.
The disciplinary probe will also cover other key
officials within the federation, including treasurer Raoul Kanda and general
secretary Wantete Badji.
According to FIFA, the decision to initiate
proceedings followed findings from an audit, which uncovered documents and
information pointing to possible financial irregularities within the
federation.
