The former Deputy Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly and the Obarisiagbon of Ubiaja, Chief Festus Ebea is poised to slug it out with other contestants for the chance to take a shot at the governorship of Edo State in next year's elections.
He says he is currently consulting with stakeholders within his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) for a chance to nick the ticket ahead the elections.
Ebea, a prominent figure in Edo State politics, recently embarked on this strategic move to gauge the pulse of the electorate and the sentiments of party stakeholders as he weighs his chances in the highly anticipated gubernatorial race.
Reports claim he has already seen a few stakeholders who are said to be favourably disposed to his candidacy.
Speaking at Ubiaja, Ebea expressed confidence in his ability to secure the APC ticket, saying ,“I am humbled by the positive reception I have received during my consultations. Edo State is at a crucial juncture, and I believe I have the vision and commitment to take our state from Hope to Higher Ground. This is my vision.”
Ebea’s aspirations have, in recent weeks, attracted positive reviews as more APC members rally behind him.
“Many supporters believe that Chief Ebea’s experience in state governance, having served as the Deputy Speaker positions him as a strong contender for the party’s nomination.”
The race for the APC ticket promises to be highly competitive, with several other aspirants also actively pursuing the nomination. The party’s primary election is expected to be keenly contested now that they desperately seek a return to reckoning following the defection of erstwhile APC member, Governor Godwin Obaseki to the then rival PDP.
The party will be looking to put forward a well grounded candidate with the right support base to give Obaseki and his anointed candidate a run for his money come the 2024 elections.
