Nigeria’s business community is mourning
the loss of one of its most respected icons, Chief Pascal Dozie, the former
Chairman of MTN Nigeria and founder of the defunct Diamond Bank. He passed away
at the age of 85.
The news of his death was confirmed by family sources
on Sunday, marking the end of an era for a man widely celebrated for his
visionary leadership and significant contributions to Nigeria’s banking and
telecommunications industries.
A Legacy of Excellence
Chief Pascal Dozie was a pioneer in Nigeria’s
corporate space, renowned for his role in transforming the banking sector and
expanding telecommunications services across the country.
He founded Diamond Bank in 1990, a financial
institution that grew to become one of Nigeria’s most successful commercial
banks before its merger with Access Bank in 2019.
As the founding Chairman of MTN Nigeria, Dozie played
a pivotal role in the telecom giant’s rise to dominance in Africa’s largest
mobile market, guiding its early operations and strategic direction.

Industry leaders, corporate executives, and government
officials have paid glowing tributes to Dozie, describing him as a man of
vision, integrity, and commitment to national development.

Chief Pascal Dozie is survived by his wife, children,
including Uzoma Dozie, the former CEO of Diamond Bank, and several
grandchildren.
