Governor Siminalayi Fubara has paid tribute to the
late lawmaker, Senator Mpigi, describing him as a dedicated public servant
whose legacy will endure.
The governor made the remarks during a Service of
Songs held at the Missionary Anglican Church in Koroma, Tai Local Government
Area, where he joined political leaders, associates, and members of the
community to honour the deceased.
According to Fubara, the late senator’s life was
defined by courage, commitment, and service to the people. He noted that
Mpigi’s contributions during his time in office would remain a lasting
testament to his impact.
The senator, who represented Rivers South-East,
reportedly died at the age of 64 after a prolonged illness.
Reflecting on the loss, the governor described the
late lawmaker as a resilient figure whose time had come, adding that his
achievements would continue to be remembered by those he served.
Fubara also spoke on the inevitability of death,
stating that human beings have no control over the length of their lives and
must accept it when it occurs.
He urged members of the bereaved family to remain
strong during this difficult period, emphasizing that only God can provide
comfort and help them cope with the loss.
The governor revealed that he had earlier extended his
condolences to the family and paid a personal visit following the senator’s
passing.
The memorial event drew attendance from members of the
National Assembly, political stakeholders, and residents of Koroma community,
as tributes continued to pour in in honour of the late senator’s life and
service.
