Governor Babagana Zulum has demonstrated continued
support for the families of fallen military personnel by donating ?150 million
to relatives of officers who lost their lives in separate attacks.
The governor reiterated his administration’s
commitment to standing by the families of security personnel who made the
ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, stressing that their contributions to
national security would never be forgotten.
Represented by his Special Adviser on Security,
Brigadier General Abdullahi Sabi Ishaq, the governor made the donation during a
funeral service held on April 10, 2026, in Obinofia Ndiuno, Ezeagu Local
Government Area of Enugu State.
The financial support was presented on behalf of the
Borno State Government as part of ongoing efforts to assist families of fallen
heroes and those affected by the country’s counter-insurgency operations.
Zulum extended his condolences to the bereaved
families, particularly that of the late Lt. Col. Okolo, whom he described as a
courageous and dedicated officer whose service to the nation would be
remembered.
He also assured that his government would continue
reaching out to other families of personnel who have been killed or declared
missing in action, emphasizing the need to provide both emotional and material
support during difficult times.
In response, a representative of the family, Prof.
Stanley Okolo, expressed appreciation for the governor’s gesture, noting that
the financial assistance and the presence of a delegation from Maiduguri
provided comfort to the grieving family.
He also acknowledged the support of the Nigerian Army
leadership, including representatives of the Chief of Army Staff and other
senior officers who attended the funeral.
The ceremony was attended by military officials,
members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), and residents
of the host community, as tributes continued to pour in for the deceased.
The gesture underscores ongoing efforts by state
authorities to honour and support military personnel and their families amid
Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges.
