Governor Babagana Zulum has demonstrated continued support for the families of fallen military personnel by donating ?150 million to relatives of officers who lost their lives in separate attacks.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to standing by the families of security personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, stressing that their contributions to national security would never be forgotten.

Represented by his Special Adviser on Security, Brigadier General Abdullahi Sabi Ishaq, the governor made the donation during a funeral service held on April 10, 2026, in Obinofia Ndiuno, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The financial support was presented on behalf of the Borno State Government as part of ongoing efforts to assist families of fallen heroes and those affected by the country’s counter-insurgency operations.

Zulum extended his condolences to the bereaved families, particularly that of the late Lt. Col. Okolo, whom he described as a courageous and dedicated officer whose service to the nation would be remembered.

He also assured that his government would continue reaching out to other families of personnel who have been killed or declared missing in action, emphasizing the need to provide both emotional and material support during difficult times.

In response, a representative of the family, Prof. Stanley Okolo, expressed appreciation for the governor’s gesture, noting that the financial assistance and the presence of a delegation from Maiduguri provided comfort to the grieving family.

He also acknowledged the support of the Nigerian Army leadership, including representatives of the Chief of Army Staff and other senior officers who attended the funeral.

The ceremony was attended by military officials, members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), and residents of the host community, as tributes continued to pour in for the deceased.

The gesture underscores ongoing efforts by state authorities to honour and support military personnel and their families amid Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges.
