Premier League club Fulham have intensified their
efforts to sign Nigerian defender Chibuike Nwaiwu after submitting an improved
offer for the Trabzonspor centre-back.
According to Turkish publication Fanatik,
Fulham's opening bid of €15 million was rejected by the Turkish Super Lig side,
prompting the London club to return with an enhanced offer worth €20 million.
Despite the improved proposal, Trabzonspor are
reportedly unwilling to part with the 22-year-old unless their valuation of
between €30 million and €35 million is met.
Nwaiwu has emerged as one of the club's most valuable
defensive assets since completing his move from Austrian outfit Wolfsberger AC
in January. His impressive performances in Turkey have attracted growing
interest from several clubs across Europe.
Fulham are not alone in the race for the Nigerian
defender, with Premier League rivals West Ham United also believed to be
monitoring his situation ahead of a possible move.
Negotiations are expected to continue as Fulham
attempt to reach an agreement with Trabzonspor for one of Nigeria's most
highly-rated young defenders.
