The Yobe State Government has approved the release of N5.8 billion for the payment of outstanding gratuities owed to retired civil servants, marking a major step toward improving the welfare of the state’s workforce.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Finance, Mohammed Geidam, the government described the move as a reflection of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s unwavering commitment to the well-being of Yobe’s civil servants who have “served the state meritoriously.”

Geidam revealed that the governor has directed the integration of gratuity payments into the state’s monthly financial schedule to ensure continuous and timely disbursement.

“This means cleared gratuity payments will now be made monthly, alongside regular pension payments, ensuring that no future backlog of retirement benefits accumulates,” he explained.

Describing the initiative as a “clear demonstration of compassionate leadership,” the commissioner said the decision provides much-needed financial relief and restores dignity to retirees across the state.

He added that the Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Head of Service are working jointly to guarantee transparent and prompt disbursement of the approved funds to all affected retirees.

According to the statement, the initiative forms part of Governor Buni’s broader economic and social agenda focused on fiscal responsibility and the welfare of citizens, particularly those who have contributed significantly to the development of Yobe State.
