Pep Guardiola has played down suggestions of any
personal tension with Mikel Arteta, insisting their relationship remains intact
despite limited contact in recent years.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, the
Manchester City boss explained that both managers now have demanding schedules
that make regular interaction difficult.
Guardiola noted that during Arteta’s time as his
assistant at City between 2016 and 2019, they spent several hours together
daily, but their relationship naturally evolved after Arteta took charge of
Arsenal FC.
He also dismissed attempts to portray tension between
them, suggesting such narratives were being exaggerated.
Despite maintaining mutual respect, the two managers
remain fierce competitors, with Arsenal and Manchester City battling closely
for major honours in recent seasons.
Guardiola’s comments come ahead of their highly
anticipated clash in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, where both sides will
look to secure silverware in what promises to be a closely contested encounter.
