The Nigeria Police Force in Akwa Ibom State has
arrested four suspects over alleged attempted murder, malicious damage, and
cult-related activities in Oruk Anam Local Government Area.
The command’s spokesperson, Timfon John, disclosed the
development in a statement issued on Friday, March 20, 2026.
According to the statement, the arrests followed a
petition and an intelligence-led operation carried out by detectives in Ikot
Asukpong village.
The suspects—John Samson (45), Emmanuel Asuquo (50),
Idorenyin Umoh (22), and Okon Akpan (70)—were apprehended during the operation.
Police operatives also recovered one locally
fabricated pistol and two long guns, which investigators say support
allegations of their involvement in violent criminal activities.
The command described the arrests as a major
breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat crime in the state, adding that
the security situation in the area remains calm and under control.
Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are
expected to be charged to court upon completion.
The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare,
reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, while
urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to
support law enforcement efforts.
