The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. near the Eke
community, where the assailants ambushed the vehicle bearing registration
number 14B-143BN. The bus was ferrying passengers to an undisclosed destination
when it came under heavy attack.
The source said the gunmen forced the vehicle to a
halt, robbed the occupants at gunpoint, and marched them into a nearby forest.
Comrade Austin Agada, Chairman of the All Progressives
Congress (APC) in Benue State, was reported to have arrived at the scene
shortly after the attack. His prompt intervention was instrumental in
initiating a quick security response.
Agada immediately alerted security agencies, prompting
the swift deployment of military and police operatives to the area to begin
search-and-rescue operations.
As of the time of filing this report, rescue efforts
are ongoing, with authorities working to locate and secure the release of the
abducted passengers.
The Benue State Police Command is yet to issue an
official statement on the incident.
